Cathcart-Related Families
					Other Surnames
There were several Barkley families living in the Fairfield District of South Carolina during the early 1800s. They also seem to have a connection all the way back to County Antrim, Ireland.
Although not directly related to my Cathcart family line, one of my great granduncle's was named Thomas Barkley Madden Cathcart (1870-1924). I've always assumed that there was a possibility that had middle name Barkley might be the maiden name of his grandmother, Nancy. Another of Nancy's grandchildren was Thomas Barkley Madden (1826-1897)—another reason to suspect that her maiden name might have been Barkley.
Finally, I recently had autosomal DNA testing done, which indicates a connection to the Barkley family—in this case it Dorcas Barkley (1818-1919) who married Elijah Vinson. Obviously more research is needed to see if there is a connection.

Bloomington (IN) Republican Progress, Jan 26, 1887, p. 3. On Wednesday night last, Mrs. Mary Cathcart, mother of the late John Cathcart, died at her residence on West 7th Street, after an illness of several months. Mrs. Cathcart was seventy-three years of age on the day of her death. She was respected and beloved by all who knew her, for Christian character and amiable disposition. Her daughters, the wives of Hugh McQuiston and Prof. Wilson of Monmouth, Ills., were with her several weeks previous to her death, but were compelled by sickness in their families to return home, so were not able to be at her bedside when she died. McCreight Family

The McCreight family is another allied family with roots in County
Antrim, and which moved from Ireland to settle in the Carolina
Piedmont area.  This family shows up many times in the Cathcart
family line -- with braches of the family moving with Cathcarts from
County Antrim to SC and then from South Carolina to Illinois and
		  Tennessee.
