North/South Carolina Border
A long-simmering dispute
The changes and disputes associated with the border between North and South
Carolina is especially important for several branches of my Cathcart
genealogical research. Although I was generally aware of the changes to counties
in the area (on both sides of the border) I did not realize the extent of the
problems—especially in the decades before the Revolutionary War.
A quick discussion of how these boundaries changed is important looking at
different groups of Cathcarts. It's quite possible that some lines of Cathcarts,
which had been associated with either North Carolina or South Carolina, may have
indeed been part of the same family. Much more research is needed.
