August 2001 THOMAS McDILL FAMILY TREE (generations 1,2,3,4,5 etc. are numbered 1,3,5,7,9 etc. Additional spouses are 2,4,6,8 etc.) Compiled by Gordon Speer, 3304 Woodlawn Road, Sterling, IL 61081 Thomas' parents were John McDill (1675-1761) and Janet LESLIE, of Broghnow, Ballymena Parish, County Antrim, Ireland. 1,1- Thomas H. McDILL (1725-12/4/1794) m. 1760 Margaret CHESTNUT (11/1/1739-12/6/1827) When the Irish immigrants on the Hopewell discovered they were about to be sold as slaves in the Bahamas, they took over the ship. With Thomas' help, since he had some sailing experience, they brought the ship safely into Charleston harbor. Thomas and Margaret are buried in a tiny cemetery deep in the woods southeast of Chester, South Carolina. What may have been their home was still standing in 1986, 4/10 of a mile south of Little Rocky Creek on the west side of Moffat Creek Road. There they rented land for a year, and eventually owned 700 acres. They were charter members of the South Henderson Church. Henry was a State Representative for one term and President of the Biggsville State Bank until his death at the age of 81. 7,1656- Thomas Y. They are ancestors of the GLENN family of Henderson County, Illinois. After David died, Keren married Miles Gordon and they had six more children.
