The Briggs family was one of the more prominent families in the
high hills of the Santee and Clarendon County. Before the Civil
War, many Briggs households were located on large and prosperous
plantations.

My Briggs Ancestors
Frederick Briggs (possibly
my 4th great grandfather)
Frederick's status as father of Thomas
Briggs below is not yet proven. However, his will does
mention a son named Thomas and the dates and places match
quite nicely.
Mentions: lawsuit between him and Abram D.
Jones (his brother-in-law), his daughter Jemima Hall, son
Thomas W. Briggs
Imagine my surprise when I discovered that
Thomas appointed by third great grand-uncle Robert Cathcart
as one of the executors! The other two named executors
were
James G. Hall (his son-in-law), and John Z. Hammond.
